Preparing for Your A320 Recurrent Check: A Practical Study Guide

Preparing for your next A320 recurrent check? Give your technical revision a clear structure, revisit knowledge gaps and use question practice alongside your operator’s training material.

Your next recurrent check is approaching. You know the aircraft, but deciding where to begin your revision can still take time.

A useful starting point is to give your preparation a clear scope: what your operator has asked you to review, which subjects need attention and how you will check your understanding.

Here is a practical way to organise the technical knowledge side of your preparation.

1. Start with your operator’s guidance

Review the briefing material, syllabus and preparation instructions provided for your upcoming training and check.

Use these to identify the subjects you need to cover and complete any assigned work. Check that you are studying the current documents applicable to your aircraft and operation.

Let that guidance set your priorities.

2. Identify what needs another look

Think back to previous training, instructor feedback and subjects you have found difficult during revision.

Perhaps you can recall a limitation but are less certain about its conditions. You may recognise a system indication without being able to explain the logic behind it.

Make a short list of specific topics. “Review hydraulics” is broad; “clarify the conditions behind this indication” gives you a more manageable task.

3. Check your understanding with a mixed test

Complete a mixed question session across subjects relevant to your preparation.

Answer without looking things up, then review the explanations afterwards. Pay attention to three types of answers:

  • Incorrect answers: What did you misunderstand or overlook?

  • Correct guesses: Could you explain the reasoning?

  • Confident answers: Does your explanation match the reference material?

Use the results to refine your revision list. One test is a starting point, so continue checking different subjects as you prepare.

4. Revisit systems through their normal operation

When a topic needs work, return to the system’s purpose and normal operation before working through the details that caused difficulty.

Ask yourself:

  • What is supplying or controlling the system?

  • What should I expect to see?

  • Which conditions change its behaviour?

  • How does it interact with other systems?

Use your current manuals and training material to work through the answers. Bring unresolved points to your instructor rather than carrying uncertainty into further practice.

5. Give limitations and procedures precise attention

When revising limitations, pay attention to applicability, conditions and aircraft configuration.

For procedures, use the current material and practice methods specified by your operator. Follow its guidance for memory items, flows and callouts.

If an additional study resource differs from your operator’s documents, clarify the difference using the applicable approved references.

6. Use your mistakes to shape the next session

After studying a difficult topic, revisit related questions.

In A320 Question Bank, Review Mode lets you create a test using questions you previously answered incorrectly. Use it to check whether you can now work through the reasoning.

Premium members can also use:

  • Search Questions to find questions related to a particular topic.

  • Smart Weak Areas to identify subjects needing attention based on their results.

  • Reports to explore performance across completed tests.

  • Study Plan to organise revision around available time.

Keep some mixed practice in your routine so that you continue revisiting stronger subjects too.

7. Keep each session manageable

Give each session a clear purpose and an achievable stopping point.

For example:

  1. Review one topic from your preparation list.

  2. Complete a short set of relevant questions.

  3. Read the explanations and check uncertain details.

  4. Note anything that needs clarification.

  5. Choose the focus of your next session.

Adjust the amount of work to your schedule. A specific plan makes it easier to resume revision between duties.

8. Look beyond the score

A question-bank score reflects your answers to those questions. Use it alongside your ability to explain concepts, apply your training and address feedback.

Technical question practice supports one part of preparation. Continue following your operator’s requirements for the practical, procedural and crew aspects of your recurrent training and check.

Give your preparation a clear next step

Start with your operator’s briefing, identify a subject worth revisiting and work through it carefully.

A320 Question Bank can support your technical revision with 1,200+ questions across 15 categories, explanations and tools for focused practice.
